Aleia is a music education major and has been involved in choir for eleven years and band for nine years. She has years of experience in voice, piano, and percussion, and enjoys working with students to find and strengthen their true, authentic voice.

Bowen (Peter) Liu is a dedicated pianist who earned his Master of Music in piano performance from the University of Iowa. He is currently completing his Doctoral of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in piano performance, also at the University of Iowa, under the tutelage of the renowned pianist Dr. Ksenia Nosikova.

Peter has established himself as a talented and committed artist. From 2019–23, Peter served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, providing group and individual piano lessons and collaborating with a variety of musicians in the community.

Peter’s exceptional artistry has led him to achieve notable success in competitions. Recent accolades include: 2022 Schubert Club competition winner, first place in the 2021 Iowa Music Teachers Association competition (IMTA), first place in the 2019 Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) competition, first place in the 2019 Thursday Young Artist college division, and winner of the 2019 Concerto-Aria competition at the University of Iowa.

In addition to competitions, Peter enjoys giving solo recitals and participating in the University of Iowa’s Key Change concert series, both Beethoven Sonata Festival and Piano Revolutionaries: Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. As the winner of the Concerto-Aria competition, he had the pleasure of performing Prokofiev’s Second Concerto with the University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra in 2021. Peter made his international debut in 2023 with solo performances in Natal, Brazil.

With a rich tapestry of experiences and a commitment to musical excellence, Peter Liu continues to captivate audiences and make meaningful contributions to the world of classical piano performance.

Dr. Joseph Ostrem is passionate about the intricacies of God’s creation, specifically as it relates to human biology. He is a learner who enjoys critical thinking and problem-solving and teaches in a way that fosters these attributes in students.

Ostrem enjoys teaching the integration of anatomy and physiology and researching the impact of exercise and other ancillary factors on human function and performance. He has published peer-reviewed articles on cardiovascular health and assessment, body composition, anaerobic and aerobic fitness.

Joe and his wife, Joni, have four children: Lily, Ruby, Ivy, and Mercy. Some of Joe’s interests include music, thrifting, and playing sports.

Jen Driskill

Jen Driskill

Faculty Instructor

Jen has decades of experience teaching music students of all ages. Having received her undergraduate degree in music at the University of Michigan, and her master’s in music from Rice University, she currently works for 98.5 KTIS as the midday host and assistant program director. She has played professionally in large and small ensembles, taught master classes, coached solos and ensembles ahead of state competitions as well as hosted master classes. Having been privileged to work with talented instructors throughout her musical career, her desire is to help her students succeed both musically and in life.
