Before working at UNW, Justin was a Pastor of Student Ministries for over 20 years where he came alongside students, parents, ministry leaders and the community through intentional relationships, oversaw all programming to MS and HS students, spoke in a variety of formats: main church services, large and small groups at youth group, in camp settings and private schools, recruited, trained, and equipped adult and student volunteers, and part-time staff, and organized and led events, mission trips and service opportunities.
When asked why he chose to come to Northwestern, Justin replied, “I believe in the mission and vision of Northwestern. God used UNW to help Crystal and me grow and equipped us for life following college. As an alumni, I have seen the fruit of my experience at UNW throughout the seasons of ministry that followed…in my occupation, my family and my personal walk with Jesus Christ. As a Pastor, I saw how God worked in the lives of the students that attended UNW as well. It is a privilege for me to serve at UNW and be used by God in this role!”
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”- Paul from 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
In his free time, Justin enjoys pruning shrubs and lawncare, spending time with friends and family, and watching sports (especially football and the LA Kings hockey).

I grew up in China and worked there as a college math instructor, and then as an economics researcher and project director. After I married my wonderful husband Erik, a U.S. citizen, I immigrated to the United States and became a permanent resident in May 2013. In a whole new environment, I worked remotely for my institute in China to complete all the ongoing projects, meanwhile, I pursued an M.B.A. and had a baby. After achieving MBA, I became an adjunct math/statistics/data instructor both at University of Northwestern – St. Paul and Bethel University. Meanwhile, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Business Analytics and Data Science at Capitol Technology University. I have unfailing appetite for what is next in my life and the joy of pursuing my dream.
