The international studies minor provides certification of a student’s global educational experience. Study abroad enables a person to deepen their understanding of the richness and diversity of the world’s cultures. Program options allow students to explore a variety of regions of the world through different academic disciplines. Prerequisite for the international studies minor: acceptance into a Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) study-abroad program.

The journalism minor helps students develop skills in news reporting and writing. It provides opportunities to gain experience in multimedia platforms, including television, radio, print, and online.

Introduces students to the principles of leadership in today’s world, and provides guided experiences through leadership opportunities through courses, workshops, internships, and campus roles.

The literature minor involves courses in literary studies, literary theory, Shakespeare, and American and British literature to provide a well-rounded study of literature.

Prepares students for marketing a company’s products and services through courses on basic marketing principles, sales, advertising and promotion, plus broad-based business concepts.

The media production minor provides students with an opportunity to gain expertise in either video or audio production.

Share the Gospel in any profession you choose. This highly-customizable minor provides additional specialization in several ministry areas of interest.

A minor in ministry adds biblical perspective and additional skills in cross-cultural understanding that could assist you in a career or volunteer service with a non-profit, church, or para-church organization.

A music minor is available for students who desire a concentration of music coursework to develop their gifts in music as they work toward a major in another discipline. Students pursuing a major in elementary education, ministry, theatre, media production, and or many other fields, may find music especially useful.

Prepare to work in nonprofit organizations. The nonprofit leadership degree combines ministry and business courses.

The philosophy minor covers ethics, epistemology, logic, and metaphysics. It addresses historical and contemporary views on philosophical questions, such as: Does God know the future? How could God be absolutely sovereign and people be free? Since there is evil, what sense can be made of the claim that “God is good”?

The physical education minor incorporates instructional fundamentals and technology, methods of teaching, team sports, injury care, and basic first aid allowing students to add these educational skills to their major.

A political science minor alongside a history major is great for anyone looking to go into law or politics. Students are free to construct their political science minor from a wide array of courses related to the subject. This minor also has a practical component, as all students participate in an internship.

The pre-athletic training minor incorporates multiple disciplines including health, fitness, and education along with kinesiology and more traditional sciences ranging from biology, chemistry, and physics. It prepares students for careers involving fitness or athletics with a solid foundation in body mechanics.

This minor was designed to help UNW students prepare for law school. The curriculum includes courses from different departments and allows students to choose from a variety of courses.

The psychology minor provides you with a foundational understanding of human behavior and interpersonal interactions. You will learn about general themes of psychology, human development from conception to death, issues related to mental illness, and the basic theories underlying psychological functioning. All courses are taught from a Christ-centered perspective so you learn the core content of psychology but also evaluate the ways in which psychology fits and/or conflicts with your faith.

The minor in psychology gives students an opportunity to explore various areas and interests in the field. The coursework is clinically oriented and specific courses regarding marriage and family may be selected.

Our unique science and theology minor will teach you how to integrate your faith into the current ethical and scientific issues facing our world, foster your creative thinking abilities, equip you to make a positive contribution to the science and religion dialogue, and show you how scholarship and research can be worship. This minor will equip you for a number of exciting post-graduation opportunities.

This science minor is a flexible one that you can construct for best fit, combining courses in biology, chemistry, environmental science, and/or physics in a mix that suits your specific career or graduate education path best.

The Songwriting Minor is designed for students who wish to use their gifts in a music-related field. Nurture your creativity as a songwriter while developing analytical music skills, performing in ensembles, and using audio production technology with this 17-credit minor.

The Special Education minor provides foundational preparation for working with special populations of students labeled within the categories of EBD (Emotional Behavioral Disorders) or SLD (Specific Learning Disabilities). The minor does not lead to full teacher licensure in these areas. Students completing the minor need to continue their studies on a graduate level in order to fully qualify for licensure as a special education teacher.

Hone your skills in public speaking, speech writing, and communications. The Speech Minor is designed for students gifted in public speaking and provides a solid foundation for careers such as press secretary or media relations professional.

The sport communication minor gives students a background in either video or audio news production and also in sports, with courses in media production being required and courses in health and physical education or kinesiology being electives.

The teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) minor is the perfect accompaniment to many other globally minded majors. With the TESOL minor, students can teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in grades K–12 and adult education settings around the world. Additionally, students can teach English as a second language courses for adults (non-K–12) in the United States. Many students use this minor to teach English abroad following graduation.

Northwestern’s flexible theatre minor is only 16 credits, making it easy to pair with other majors. Gain experiences in theatre production and performance, improve your acting, and follow your passion through theatre electives.

The writing minor involves courses in writer’s style, poetry, fiction, editing and proofreading, advanced grammar and syntax, technical writing, freelance writing, etc., to enhance a student’s overall writing skills.
