Why major in Communications Art/Literature Education?
If you’ve dreamed of teaching the power of words to grades 5-12, this is the major for you. You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of teaching in methods and curriculum courses in the Department of Education and take content courses in the Department of English and Literature, gathering with your fellow “litheads,” grammar nerds, and aspiring writers.
Attend poetry readings in coffeehouses and plays at the Guthrie with your classmates and professors, and join Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society.
The CALE major is in conjunction with the University of Northwestern Department of Education.

"The things I learned in the English department have translated into professional skills: everything from curriculum writing to development of training materials, from building a classroom library to communicating cross-culturally.
But the encouragement to seek truth and notice beauty plays out daily in my life, wherever I'm at, and allows me to encourage the same in my students."
