When choosing a college major, most students focus primarily on preparing for a career. However, UNW students also discover that one of the most valuable additions to their education is a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

College is a time for students to explore big questions about identity, vocation, relationships, and purpose. A secondary major in the Bible offers additional opportunities to wrestle with these questions. Students can do this in a supportive Christian community through the lens of Scripture.

UNW is committed to an unwavering foundation in God’s Word, which is His revealed truth. The Bible shapes how Christians understand God, humanity, ethics, culture, and their purpose in life. A secondary major in the Bible helps students go beyond basic knowledge of Scripture. It leads to a richer and more thoughtful understanding of God’s truth.

How It Benefits Every Career

A secondary major in the Bible provides a way for students to grow their faith and gain wisdom. It also prepares them to apply Scripture in their future careers and everyday lives.

Biblical education is not useful only for pastors or missionaries; it benefits students in all fields. It helps them draw upon biblical wisdom as they make decisions, serve others, and lead with integrity.

Bible courses at UNW help students grow both intellectually and spiritually. Students are taught to think critically, analyze complex texts, and evaluate different viewpoints. They also learn how to communicate their beliefs with conviction, grace, and respect. These skills are important for personal and spiritual growth. They also matter in the workplace. Employers value graduates who can communicate clearly. They also look for critical thinkers, problem solvers, and those who make ethical decisions.

UNW seeks to prepare students for their first job and for a lifetime of serving Christ, the church, and the world. The university aims to equip students to engage with culture from a biblical worldview and to become leaders who honor God in their homes, churches, communities, and careers. A secondary major in the Bible helps students develop the knowledge, character, and wisdom to do this. It equips them to integrate faith with every area of learning and to serve Christ faithfully.

Students in biology, nursing, business, education, psychology, or engineering benefit from knowing Scripture. It enables them to think biblically about the challenges they will face in their careers. It equips them to navigate tough choices, raise future families on biblical truth, lead with character, and engage with culture. The goal is for them to remain rooted in their faith long after graduation.

Why It’s Easy to Add

UNW offers a unique opportunity. Students can earn a Bible minor while completing their primary major through the core curriculum. Through courses such as Christian Thinking & Living, Interpreting Scripture, Surveys of the Old and New Testaments, Theological Philosophy, and an upper-level theology course, students build a strong biblical foundation as part of their college education.

For students wanting to go further, UNW offers a secondary major in the Bible. Every traditional undergraduate student takes four credits of Bible Exposition. These courses explore specific books or sections of the Bible. Students wanting a secondary major in the Bible only need six more credits. This setup lets many finish the major without delaying graduation.

Many students earn credits through the Biblical and Theological Studies Department’s study tours to Greece, Italy, Turkey, or Israel. They use these credits to advance in their secondary major in the Bible. Walking where Jesus and Paul walked brings the Bible to life. It helps students connect what they learn in class to the history and culture of Scripture.

Curriculum Details

Students can deepen their studies with additional Bible Exposition courses. They can take leadership and vocational classes. They can also choose Bible and theology electives. The secondary Bible major does not require Greek. This is different from UNW’s Biblical and Theological Studies major. This makes it a more accessible choice for students in all fields.

Students in the Great Books & Ideas secondary major can earn a secondary major in the Bible. They need to add six credits in Bible Exposition. This way, they blend biblical education with their study of classic texts and ideas.

Bible courses teach students to read the Bible carefully. They learn its history, context, and meaning, and how to apply its truths in their lives. They also help students see how God’s truth connects to every discipline.

Adding a secondary major in the Bible is a practical and rewarding choice. It enhances UNW’s distinctive commitment to biblical education. It prepares students for successful careers and lives of service. They build leadership skills and learn to make a lasting impact for Christ at home, in churches, in communities, and at work.

If you plan to earn a degree at UNW, consider a secondary major in Bible. It’s a great way to deepen your faith and enrich your education.
