New Student Day department fair

If you’re a high school student who is starting to explore colleges, I’m guessing you want to see what the campus is like. You want to see the dorms, eat the food, and see if it’s actually as beautiful as the pictures look. Most importantly, you want to see if this is the community you want to call home for the next four years.

If that’s you, you’re on the right track – campus visits are the number one way to see if a college is the right fit for you! At UNW, Fall Preview Days are one of my favorite ways for students to see if UNW is the right fit for them.

In general, there are two ways to visit a college campus: a personalized visit or a visit event. Personalized visits let you choose each part of the day and are more individualized, while visit events are with a group following a set schedule. While both are valuable, I believe visit events like Fall Preview Days are the best way to experience UNW.

The main reason Fall Preview Days are the best way to experience UNW is that you get a taste of the UNW community. Christ-centered community is the number one reason students choose to attend UNW, so it’s important to experience that on a campus visit. At Fall Preview Days, you will be exploring UNW with 30-60 other students and their families. You will worship in chapel with them, eat lunch with them, and tour campus with them. There are three big reasons this is helpful for you personally:

  1. You are excited to be visiting UNW, and so is everyone else! That energy is contagious and makes the entire visit more fun.
  2. Other students and parents will ask questions that you don’t think to ask. You will benefit from everyone’s questions!
  3. You get an idea of what types of students are exploring UNW. Ask yourself: Are these the students I want to be in community with?
  4. Bonus for Parents: You get to meet other families with similar values who also want to see their students pursue Jesus in college. There is nothing more reassuring than knowing that you can trust the community you’re sending your student to.

The other main reason Fall Preview Days are the best way to experience UNW is because you get to do things that we don’t usually offer on personalized visits. A few highlights of the day are:

  • Student Panel – Hear from current students about their UNW experience. They are relatable, honest, and funny!
  • Academic Fair – Every academic department is there, so you can learn more about whatever major you’re interested in. This is especially helpful if you don’t know what you want to study, because you can talk to everyone!
  • Chapel – Christ is the center of everything we do at UNW, and chapel is a big part of that. Fridays are always Praise Chapel, so come worship with us!
  • Campus Tour – A student tour guide will show you our beautiful lakeside campus, including our top-rated dorms. You can also go on department-specific tours to learn more about your major.
  • Admissions Presentation – Get all the information you need about UNW, including the admissions process and cost of attendance. If you have specific questions, our admissions counselors will buy you a coffee and sit down with you to make sure they’re answered.
  • Lunch – A critical part of the day!

I truly believe that Fall Preview Days are one of the best ways to experience life at UNW. As you start to explore colleges, remember that your primary goal should be to find the college that’s the right fit for you. If you want to know if UNW is the right fit for you, Fall Preview Days are a great way to do that.

This year, Fall Preview Days are on October 15 and 16 (MEA), October 23, and November 6. They start at 8:30 a.m. and end around 1:30 p.m.

And, if you still think a personalized visit is best for you, you can always register as well. Either way, I hope to see you on campus soon!
