Music Application and Scholarships

Application and Audition Process

Music is a dual admission program. Students must be admitted to both Northwestern and the Department of Music & Theatre in order to major in music. The University of Northwestern – St. Paul is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

2026–2027 Audition Days

• Saturday, November 21, 2026 – Application Deadline November 9
• Monday, February 15, 2027 (President’s Day) – Application Deadline February 1
• Saturday, February 27, 2027 – Application Deadline February 1

1. Complete the Music Audition Application.

Click here to tell us about yourself and upload your performance videos. Use the Music Audition Repertoire guidance sheet to help you select or create recordings that will best showcase your musical strengths.

2. Watch for communication about the results of your application. If you are invited for an in-person audition, select your date and time slot.

3. Audition on campus.

• You may also choose to attend an Admissions event or Theatre production, as available. Indicate your interest when you schedule your audition.
  • Friday, November 20, 2026 – Join us for the UNW Orchestra and Symphonic Band Concert and/or participate in the UNW Honor Band & String Orchestra Festival Nov. 21 (by teacher nomination only).
  • Monday, February 15, 2027 – “Day Off, Drop In” President’s Day Visit.
  • Saturday, February 27, 2027 – Theatre Performance: See our spring theatre production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! after your audition.

After February 27, scholarship audition applications may be accepted on a rolling basis as funds allow.
