Computing, Cybersecurity, & Applied Mathematics

The Computing, Cybersecurity, & Applied Mathematics programs at Northwestern integrate faith-related perspectives to concepts like computer algorithms and security, data analysis, and mathematical certainty. We also investigate how faith shaped the development of mathematical discoveries and current technology. The goal is to be able to solve many real-world problems.

What Sets Us Apart?

Northwestern’s mathematics, computer science, and cybersecurity programs prepare graduates to be leaders who are able to coordinate multidisciplinary teams. Students learn how to research, design, and implement solutions within standard procedures, ethical practices, and the use of contemporary technologies within a framework that considers the ethical, social, and cultural intentions of God’s plan for humanity and creation.

Students strengthen analytical skills, logical thinking, and ability to develop and test solutions. Training to navigate AI is incorporated within the curriculum, teaching students to assist their creativity and productivity, while avoiding it as a hinderance to learning.

Northwestern uses cloud-based computing and computer labs dedicated to networking, virtual reality, and robotics.

Students are known by their professors and often mentored throughout their professional careers as alumni. These connections allow students to build a network of industry leaders who are established in their fields.

Northwestern partners with local businesses through projects embedded in courses, internships, research courses, and Northwestern Center for Innovation and Research (NCIR). These partnerships supports local businesses, and allows for students to develop problem solving skills, and opening doors for future employment opportunities.

Northwestern really values real life experiences in the way that they teach. They do a great job of bringing in people from the real world that teach what it is that we are learning and how that is applied to the work that they do.

At Northwestern, the idea of community, especially Christ-centered community, means there is a lot more togetherness in the engineering program. At least once or twice a day we are spending time together at the student center doing homework. When you’re doing something you all love, even if it is homework, even if it’s numerical analysis and thermodynamics, it’s still really cool to do [all of it] together in a community.
