Time to talk finances

How and when should I complete the financial aid process?

Complete the FAFSA

1. Visit pin.ed.gov to get your Personal Identification Number (PIN), which you will use to electronically sign the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). One PIN for the student and one for either mom or dad.

2. Complete the FAFSA form(s) online at fafsa.ed.gov

If you intend to enroll in Spring 2014, you will need your IRS Form 1040 for 2013 in order to complete the 2013-14 FAFSA.

If you intend to enroll in Fall 2014, you will need your IRS Form 1040 for 2014 (available after January 2014) in order to complete the 2014-15 FAFSA. For priority funding for 2014-15, complete the FAFSA between January – May 1, 2014.

The University of Northwestern Institutional Code for the FAFSA is 002371.

Afterward...

If your family has unusual financial circumstances, you may include a Parental Appeal Form from the UNW Financial Aid website.

We're quick! You may expect an offer of financial assistance from University of Northwestern within one to two weeks after all documents have been received and all questions are resolved.

Your admission counselor will call your family to walk through your award and answer your questions.
