Barbara J. Rogers

Piano

Faculty member since 2000

Barbara J. Rogers has performed widely throughout the United States and in France, specializing in new or unfamiliar works. She has given the regional and world premieres of several works by Meier, including a piano concerto and a suite for oboe, clarinet, bassoon and piano written specifically for her. She frequently collaborates in performance with colleagues near and far. Her scholarly interest in art music by African-American composers and women composers, both historical and contemporary, continues to inform her repertoire choices.

Her students here have been winners of local, state, regional, and national competitions; also, they have been admitted to prestigious graduate degree programs. Before joining the Northwestern faculty, Dr. Rogers had taught at colleges and universities in California, Ohio, and New Jersey. She is a frequent presenter and adjudicator for local, state, and national musical organizations. An active member of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association, she has served on several of its committees and task forces.

As a composer, she has fulfilled numerous commissions for works ranging in scope from a 20-second benediction to her three-act opera Ruth (libretto by Pamela S. Wynn). Boosey & Hawkes, Choristers Guild, and Frog Music Press have published some of her works.
