Describe your job responsibilities:
I provide category insights and category solutions to my customer and sales team. More specifically, I collaborate with sales and marketing functions to provide analytics and insights to build custom category initiatives to drive sales. Additionally, I support my category team in meeting with key customer decision makers to present category development plans and new category opportunities.

When did you start at this job?
I began with ConAgra in September 2009 in an entry-level role and was promoted in May 2010 to Sales Rep II on C-Store. In August 2011, I was promoted to Associate Category Manager.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the challenge of selling. I love the competitive atmosphere, you win or lose every time you go into an appointment with a buyer. Every time you pitch a product, promotion, or program you can have the thrill of winning, or you have to figure out how to learn from losing.

 How did Northwestern prepare you for the responsibilities and challenges of your job?

  1. I learned a lot about the business world, including how to run a business, which helps me in my role as there are some entrepreneurial aspects to being an managing a sales account.
  2. I was put in positions to think critically and creatively to find solutions to complex problems through case studies and group discussions.
  3. I got a well rounded education including accounting, finance, marketing, international business, information systems, etc. which allows me to speak to a variety of topics and also have a more full understanding of my business and how to positively impact my business goals.
  4. Playing football at Northwestern allowed me to continue being in a competitive environment, while teaching me to both win and lose in a Christ-like manner, which is something that I use routinely in my job.

Why did you choose Northwestern?
I chose Northwestern to play football with my older brother. I also knew it had a strong reputation for having great Christian students, staff, and professors to help me grow in my faith and get an education.

How did you see yourself mature while at UNW? And how do you integrate that now in your career?
I matured in all aspects of my life while at Northwestern. I was given a base of knowledge to bring into the work place, and I was taught so much about the Bible, which I have also taken into my life as I live out and defend my faith in the very secular environment that is Las Vegas. There was so much I learned both spiritually and academically that allowed me to become a better salesman, family member, husband and Christian.

What did you enjoy most about Northwestern?
I loved playing football and being involved in a small campus that has a community feel. I also loved my higher level business classes, where I made many lasting friendships and was able to actively engage in my education through team assignments and presentations.

Why is Northwestern a good place to study business?
Northwestern is a great place to study business because you get the opportunity to learn business from experienced Christian professors. Small class sizes allow for personal relationships with professors and more opportunity for discussion in group format to learn from peers. Also, at Northwestern the professors are very interested in making successful business men and women.
